Hai everyone. So I would like to apologize once again for our random hiatuses that we keep taking. But I promise we are going to be updating frequently now. And I know I said that the last time too. Haha. Well…….
So 2011 is already looking to be a great year for Singapore, with already tons of bands coming down to play, Deerhunter, The National, Beach House, Tortoise, Jimmy Eat World, and so many more. Not to forget the Crystal Castles gig that I should be at right now but no.
Whatever. You guys are probably not even gonna read the above paragraphs, so I should just get straight to the music.
January 2011 Playlist (Bryan)
So I’ve decided to split my playlist tonight to two parts, Winter, and Summer. I know it’s lame but it beats typing ‘Sad’ and ‘Happy’ or ‘Slow’ and ‘Fast’. Sooooooo…
Winter (Sad/Slow half, I relate sadness to winter, don’t ask me why.)
1) Bright Eyes - Lime Tree (Download)
So everyone probably knows who Bright Eyes (Conor Oberst) is already, but I find this song really underrated, Conor Oberst is epic on all levels as a lyricist. And this song right here justifies that very fact. For everyone, really, cause everyone has their sad music phases. Some other similar songs by him, ‘Lua’, ‘Tereza & Thomas’.
2) WHY? - This Blackest Purse (Download)
I have a feeling I posted this last year already but I’m way too lazy to go look through the archive. This song is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard. Lyrics-wise and music-wise. Theres just this real emotion you hear from his low and pretty whiny sounding voice. It also has one of my favourite lines ever, ‘I wanna speak at an intimate decibel, with the precision of an infinite decimal’. Dope? Yes? Yes.
3) Bon Iver - Blindsided (Download)
Have always been a Bon Iver fan, but sometimes when you listen to a band you keep replaying your favourite songs again and again, and you don’t really give much attention to the other small gems in the album. At least for me it happens. And this gem right here was unearthed to me way too late. To me the song’s about dealing with the pain of a breakup, and this song is really so sad, yet calming. It’s one of those songs you close your eyes throughout the whole song and just listen.
Summer (Happy/Fast half. I know the whole season thing is fucking stupid, but deal with it okay?)
4) New Order - Dreams Never End (Download) (Right+click and save for this one)
Finally some optimism yeah? Haha. I don’t think I can think of any other song i’d rather dance to in a house party. (Other than Duck sauce - Barbara streisland, but that one is just unfair cause it’s just way too catchy.) I love the intro, I love the tune, I love everything about this song.
5) Deerhunter - Revival (Download)
This song is one of my favorite songs of 2010. Very catchy song. Can’t wait to see them play this live. Don’t have much to say about this one, but it’s really good. Do give it a listen if you haven’t already.
6) Bag Raiders - Shooting Stars (Download)
A Friend sent me this one. This one has a melody that kinda transforms into a worm, crawls into your ear and stays there. (Ha! Earworm, get it?) In other words it is super addictive. and really dance-able to too. One. Highly recommended if you like upbeat electronic music.
